Upper Cervical Adjustment Groups

NUCCA is an acronym for the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. It was founded in 1966 by chiropractor Ralph Gregory and based primarily upon the work he and John Grostic had performed before Grostic’s death in 1964. The new style of upper cervical adjusting technique was taught in 1966 at the first NUCCA seminar, which was held at the Howard Johnson Motel in Monroe, Michigan.[1] NUCCA is currently taught at 5 chiropractic colleges/universities: Palmer School of Chiropractic, North Western University of Sciences, Sherman College of Chiropractic, Life University and Life Chiropractic College West.
Orthospinology is a sub-specialty of the chiropractic profession, focusing on the alignment of the upper cervical spine. It is one of several upper cervical procedures utilizing radiographs (x-ray films) of the head and neck to determine a misalignment or subluxation that may create irritation of and thereby, interference to, the functioning of your nervous system. This gentle form of chiropractic aligns the upper cervical spine to enhance health, reduce pain and ease chronic health problems.
The Council on Upper Cervical Care is one of the specialty councils of the International Chiropractors Association. It is a professional forum designed to advance expertise in the analysis and care of the upper cervical spine and to be a voice for upper cervical chiropractic in research, education, clinical and policy-making environments. To this end it offers a post-doctoral program in upper cervical care leading to a Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures (DCCJP). By building a strong network of upper cervical professionals, the Council seeks to promote unity within the articular- and orthogonal- based procedure groups to increase chiropractic’s impact on public health, advance research and be a solid resource for information on upper cervical care.
The Blair Technique is a chiropractic method that uses gentle adjustments to correct misalignments in the upper cervical spine. It’s a personalized approach that uses precise imaging and a specially designed instrument to realign the atlas and axis vertebrae. One unique feature of Blair Technique is that, for any given articular misalignment to be adjusted, the clinician has a choice of adjustments permitting either an ipsilateral or a contralateral segmental contact. Superior or inferior torque is used, depending upon the misalignment and choice of contact.
